Not a green pasture
- Mohammad Anis, Mississauga, Canada

From all around the world, people are blindly applying for migration to Canada. People might think that it is a land of opportunity, but actually Canada is a land of discrimination.
Even though the government of Canada is inviting more qualified professionals, in the form of doctors, engineers, chartered accountants, etc, and propagating all around the world that they need experienced people, what they are looking for are not professionals but educated slaves.

Once people with high qualifications and experience in their own fields reach Canada, they are not considered even for entry level positions. Because they arrive after winding up everything back home, they have no choice but to find any job that they can lay their hands on. It is only on paper that everyone seems equal, but in actual fact, immigrants have no rights and are treated as third class residents.

It is only white Canadians who are treated as the royals. There are all kind of rules and regulations that help in the development and improvement of the social status, prosperity and progress of these white Canadians.

But this is not so for immigrants. While white Canadians live in luxury, immigrants live in a miserable state. I can cite several examples of discrimination practised by the authorities in Canada.

Once, I had to rush my wife to a hospital, where a nurse arranged for an I.V. to be given to her. She tried to give her an expired I.V. and when I objected, she asked me why I was complaining, when these are the IVs that are sent to Third World countries as aid every year.

Classics forever
- K.M. Divakaran, Buraimi, Sultanate of Oman

Some old films are worth watching again and again. That may be the reason why the restored DVD versions of Hollywood classics like Casablanca and To kill a mocking bird are being received with both hands by the discerning film enthusiast.
To kill a mocking bird tells the story of two young children, Jem and Scout and their middle-aged widowed lawyer father, Atticus. The story takes place in the sleepy southern town of Alabama in America during the Great Depression. It was a time when white people gave coloured folks a hard time, without stopping to think that they too were humans.

Contrary to the general belief that a film should have either romance or action as an essential ingredient to make it successful, To kill a mocking bird became an instant hit when it was released first in 1962. This was, even though there are no breath-taking action scenes or romance in the film, which is based on Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name.

Model of good governance
 - Khalid Saleh, Doha, Qatar

Where are the deaf, dumb and blind crusaders of human rights who cannot act against criminals who openly persecute womenfolk, be it in Gujarat, Afghanistan and recently in Pakistan as well?
For years, these human-rights advocates have been busy concocting stories about the discrimination of women under Taleban regime. they fraudulently mobilised all resources of the world to eliminate them. The Taleban have actually been ensuring the safety and honour of all residents irrespective of gender, language, nationality and religion. The only problem with them was that they refused to be Uncle Sam's stooges. Did we ever hear of people belonging to the religious minorities being killed during the Taleban era?

Violence, coercion, corruption and exploitation of human rights have been rampant ever since the US and its allies waged aggression in the name of a 'war against terror'. How long will mankind continue to suffer? And how long will it continue to condone such exploitation?

Even critics of the Taleban government now realise that the establishment of a peaceful society demands Taleban-styled honest rulers to ensure justice, equality and tranquillity among people, which neither Bush nor his minions like Musharraf and Karzai can deliver.

US at fault
- Mansoor, Hyderabad, India

The country that needs to be disarmed immediately and which is a major threat to world peace is the United States itself. It is the only country in the world to have used all kinds of weapons of mass destruction on civilian populations.
Nuclear bombs (Hiroshima and Nagasaki), chemical and biological weapons (Vietnam and Korea) and the kind of conventional weapons with huge fire power (cluster bombs, etc) used in Afghanistan, Iraq, etc are thinly disguised weapons of mass destruction that no one but the US has used.

On top of this, the US has the gall of saying that the International Court of Justice is not relevant.

The reason is easy to see. The US is an utterly selfish nation and cares two hoots for any other countries of the world.
